The X-ray/γ-ray spectrum of XTE J1550–564 in the very high state
We fit the broad-band X/γ-ray spectrum (0.8–1000 keV) of the accreting black hole XTE J1550–564 in the very high state. The quasi-simultaneous data from ASCA, RXTE and OSSE show that the disc is strongly Comptonized, with a high energy tail extending out to several hundreds keV. However, inverse Compton scattering by a purely thermal or purely power-law electron distribution cannot explain the ...
متن کاملX-ray Observations of Xte J1550–564 during the Decay of the 2000 Outburst – I. Chandra and Rxte Energy Spectra
We report on the evolution of the X-ray energy spectrum for the black hole candidate (BHC) X-ray transient XTE J1550–564 during the decay of the 2000 outburst. The Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and Chandra observations span nearly five orders of magnitude in luminosity. The RXTE spectra are dominated by a power-law component and a comparatively weak soft component was also detected for the...
متن کاملTime-evolution of the Power Spectrum of the Black Hole X-ray Nova Xte J1550-564
We have studied the time evolution of the power spectrum of XTE J1550-564, using X-ray luminosity time series data obtained by the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer satellite. A number of important practical fundamental issues arise in the analysis of these data, including dealing with time-tagged event data, removal of noise from a highly non stationary signal, and comparison of different time-frequ...
متن کاملX-ray Nova XTE J1550-564: Optical Observations
We report the identification of the optical counterpart of the X-ray transient XTE J1550-564 described in two companion papers by Sobczak et al. (1999) and Remillard et al. (1999). We find that the optical source brightened by ≈ 4 magnitudes over the quiescent counterpart seen at B ≈ 22 on a SERC survey plate, and then decayed by ≈ 1.5 magnitudes over the 7 week long observation period. There w...
متن کاملAn X-ray Timing Study of Xte J1550–564: Evolution of the Low Frequency Qpo for the Complete 2000 Outburst
We report on RXTE observations of the microquasar XTE J1550–564 during a ∼ 70 day outburst in April-June 2000. We focus here on the temporal properties of the source and study the behavior of low frequency (0.1 − 10 Hz) quasi periodic oscillations (LFQPO), which seem to be of different types. We focus on the so-called type C (according to the classification of Remillard and collaborators), whic...
